There are so many different browsers available nowadays, how do you know which one gives you the best experience on the web?
At the moment of this being published the most popular browser on the internet is Google Chrome with 71.4% of the market share. Since it was released in September 2008 the amount of people using this platform has gradually seen it rise from 3.1% to this figure and in turn has shifted Internet Explorer into massive decline from 49% to 5.7% currently. With these statistics it could be assumed that Chrome is the most advanced and cutting edge tool for displaying websites at the moment, but that would be wrong.
Maybe partially driven by the increase in competitors such as Chrome and the loss of its standing as the number one web browser (combined with a poor reputation) Microsoft has discontinued Internet Explorer, paving the way for a different brand of internet experience. In August 2015 Microsoft Edge was released. At this current moment in time Edge is the only browser to fully support the latest web features, with 100% of HTML5 technologies compared to 81% on Chrome. Does this mean that Microsoft Edge will give you the best browsing experience? Not necessarily.
Chrome, Edge and competitors Firefox, Opera and Safari all have their own perks (Self confessed ’Speed King’ Firefox proclaims to be the fastest browser on the internet). There may be general differences when using them, while some offer useful add-ons that could make tasks on the web a little easier, but as long as you’re keeping the browser up-to-date and making sure you moving with the technologies then it mostly comes down to personal preference.
At Carrick we develop websites to be fully cross browser compatible, meaning that you should enjoy the same high level experience on all current internet browsers. So although there are many different browsing tools available, your experience isn’t hindered even if you choose to go back and use a version of Internet Explorer 9.
